    Ford 8N ignition problems

Working on 1950 8N and not getting fire to plugs. So far replaced coil, points.
distributor cap, and condenser. Still no arc at points or spark plugs. Tractor has been converted to 12V years ago and ran great for years just sat for 8 months and now no spark.
    Please help!

Are you getting power to the distributor?

Sounds like a distributor problem to me if the points aren't gapped properly. Do the points looked burnt?

rotor? I have seen new rotors that had a hole under the center contact point..this allowed the "spark" to go straight to the shaft rather than out to the plugs.

Also, does this use a resistor wire in line....or should it?

See if you have power to the coil. Rats can eat wires

This is where I went when I had issues. I converted mine to electronic ignition and 12v.

Haven't started mine in years...probably need to drain the tank and rebuild the carb on mine.

Just don't admit to changing all those parts without knowing they were bad, or else those geezers will scold you.

The ignition switches on 8ns go bad. Use a wire and by pass the ignition, this will eliminate one possibility quickly.

Got 12v to 1.5 ohm resistor then 6v out to new 12v coil

Took wire from positive on battery straight to positive on coil and still no fire on points
Thought might be ignition switch also

With dist. cap off shouldn't there be visible spark between points when turning engine over?

It sounds like you may have bought a coil with 3 ohms built in. Check the resistance in the coil

I had the same problem with mine. Where the wire goes to the distributor, that lug has a insulator on it that cracks sometimes. I push it out and put a piece of heat shrink on it to re-insulate it.

Got 1.5 ohms through new coil. New coil says to use external
resistor so ran it through existing 1.5 ohm resistor also.

Ok that's right. What is your gap set at on the points?
