    My kiddo's (8 & 10 last year) used a 7mm-08 with Reduced Recoil last year and a .243.

The 7mm-08 was too much with regular rounds but the Reduced Recoil worked well. I decided to sell it and we are going with a .22-250 this year.

They practiced exclusively with a scoped .22 and never really noticed the recoil.

All my kids stared at 8 yrs of age. Now they are 9, 10, 12. One used the .243, The other two shot their deer with a 22-250.

Mine was six when he shot his first deer. He shot his first one with a .243. Now he hunts mostly with his bow but does shoot a .308. He is now 17 and I have lost count of how many deer and pigs he has shot. Get them out there when they are young and let them have fun

6 yrs old . .222 savage bolt cut down to fit.
My family and friends have all started their kids with this same gun for pigs and deer. Broadside, close and standing still.
          Anazingly accurate and deadly .

          .243 after that
