I have plenty of sd cards and do swap them and take the back home SOMETIMES. I'm looking for something I can easily and quickly look through game cam pics in the field or show pics to people in my truck.

By the way, a lot of cameras won't let you view pics from certain game cams.

The IPAD mini is a small hand held computer without keyboard. It also comes with WIFI (AT&T and or SPRINT 4G) connectivity, if you buy one with that service\feature. You can cruise around connected to TBH and read trail camera images....all out in the pasture!

On the IPAD device, there is a small port that is named the LIGHTNING port. This port is used to recharge the IPADs internal battery, like a laptop but, this power port is bi-directional meaning, you can plug MAC aware LIGHTNING devices into this port, and use it as a pathway in and or out of the IPAD.

Lightning ports support all kinds of cool little things like external VGA, Credit card readers, Flash memory devices, USB expansion ports etc etc etc. You simply plug one end into the IPAD's Lightning port and the other end of the cable is what ever functionality you need to read, write or input to the IPAD.

Consider the IPAD and IPAD mini's as a very portable, lightweight laptop, without the keyboard. It will read everything on the SD card and you simply use your fingers to flip through each photo, sliding your hand across the IPAD screen...like an IPHONE or ANDROID.

The screen is big enough to view everything within and they sell one with the RETINA video card, which is about as top end as it gets with pixel reviews via a handheld device.

Course you can also get a MAC BOOK AIR and haul that around in a small day pack on your back. The small MAC BOOK AIR tablet is around 13" and wafer thin in a small aluminum case. No spinning hard drives, it's simply FLASH memory...gigs upon gigs of internal memory with a keyboard and mouse pad, add the RETINA display, pixels on the screen absolutey POP in sunlight!

They run anywhere from 6 bucks to 18 bucks. Do a google search with

8-Pin Lightning Camera Connection Kit w/ USB / SD /

Amazon and others have them by the dozens. Some have cables and others are simply little boxy devices that plug directly into the IPAD and or IPAD MINI Lightning port.

This is very cool technology and add WIFI coverage with the IPAD Mini, you can do a lot of FIELD Work without the bulk of other, older technologies (tablets, laptops) and or the screen and input limitations of Smart phones.

Thank you Rob. Not only did I learn something good from you today, I can actually see a work-related application to this technology. Therefore....writeoff! Cha-ching!!

            Who'd a thought it?

Does anyone know if my iPhone 5s will let me browse the photos like I do with the iPad?

                EXCELLENT!

These little IPAD mini's are finding their way into a lot of shops today. Plumbers, Construction, Electrical, HVAC....many of the guys who work for themselves are using them now. Great for project planning, dispatch notifications from the home office as well as invoice and credit card payments.

An application development group FIELDAWARE, available on ITUNEs for download. It is basically a "turn-key" IPAD software solution that puts the power of these devices into the hands of those that need it, without the high costs associated with a true IT infrastructure & support team.

Snap photos of projects, email that to those back at the office etc., plus it has an invoice piece, navigation piece where you can plug the address into FIELDAWARE and map yourself into the client's location using GPS\4G signaling etc.

In the trail camera reader mode, you can view them, and email the choice images in the pasture, to those on the lease or to those who you want to share the images with. Heck, you can put a post up on TBH and cover live hunts easily, using the Internal camera and or external Lightning Port for point and shoot and or DSLR camera technologies too! Just add the data plan to cover the monthly bandwidth needs if and when you do need to go strictly 4G. Using the internal WIFI connector, you can jump on hot spots and or use the network at home or work to reduce your monthly bandwidth overhead etc.

I tried popping the SD cards in two cameras (a point n'-shoot and a DSLR - both Nikons) but it would not read them, I think due to differing formats. I'm now using an old netbook that used to belong to my son. It's small and light and works great.

I've had the same problem, Jerp. Does the notebook have a SD slot? Is it real slow scrolling through pics?

Did you pull the SD cards from a game camera and try to read them with the NIKON and or Point and Shoot cameras? If so, you are correct, they will typically not be compatible.

I gave up trying to find something to view them in the field with my vision. Now I just change the cards and look at them when I get back to my laptop whether it is in my truck or back at the camp house.

So should ANY tablet with an sd card slot work for this?

As long as the card is "unlocked", any camera should read it.
