    how to find a survey....

My family is trying to sell one of our places and we cant find the old survey and the survey company has since gone out of business. I have tried calling the county appraisal office and they said that they don't keep the surveys. anybody know how to find one without using the survey company? thanks!

        Try contacting the previous landowner.

Maybe the title company? Or if it was financed at any time the bank that supplied the financing may have a copy of it.

Did your family close at a Title Company when they bought it?. The title company might have one. Otherwise you might be out of luck since the surveyor and the owner are usually the only ones to have the survey.

Go to that county's appraisal district online and do a property search by name( who owns it). And then click on the correct result and then find the volume or page number. Write that down and go to the courthouse and pull that file or volume & pg number.

That sounds like you're talking about a deed or other recorded instrument. Surveys aren't typically recorded.

Years ago when I worked for a surveyor, we researched surveys, titles, and deeds at the County Clerk's office. Almost always found what we needed, even going back to the Spanish land grants.

If the survey is that old, it isn't going to do you or the buyer any good. Title policy will probably require a new survey, or it will have exclusions. Lenders don't like exclusions.

Sounds like its time for a new survey.

thanks for all the input guys. I have tried to go to the county appraisal but no luck. I think the last survey was about 10 years or so ago but not sure. Was hoping we could figure something out and not have to pay to have it surveyed again. its right at 200 acres...
