    Well, That's A Bummer

Since the folks in D.C. can't get their act together and act like responsible adults, read where tours to the White House have been cancelled until further notice. And here we just applied for tickets for when we go to D.C. on the 4th of July.

Now, if these children can't get it in gear and this jacks with my tickets to the Friday evening parade at 8th and I then I'm really gonna be peeved.

You sure this isn't because of the snow storm they are about to get hammered with? Hope you get to make your tour.

I read that the tours are ran by volunteers, and are still being cancelled. Makes about as much since as everything else that goes on at DC

They cancelled public tours (which I understand are just about self guided) because of the budget cuts. I think it a crock. But that doesn't matter. It's basically saying that we can't have the tours to the peoples house unless the peoples taxes get raised, again.

Actually, we heard there's one at the Library of Congress that's really geared towards kids we're applying for.

Saw this on the news this morning. They played the recorded message saying tours are cancelled due to the sequester/sequestration. One of the reps I believe said we should cancel the Presidential golf outings as well if we cant afford the tours.

The Library of Congress is a great tour. It's one of the most underrated buildings (that is, relatively unknown to tourists) in DC. I'm not really sure why. Back in the day, I was a congressional intern and always recommended people go see the building.

On subject, there is a greater cost to running tours of the WH that most people realize. There are Secret Service officers (not agents) in every room that is accessible to the public. There are a lot of rooms. Without tours, there would be no need for these officers to be standing in the Blue Room, East Room, etc. unless POTUS or another protectee happened to be there. Obviously, there are other costs associated with tours. It is a shame these tours, which are self-guided, are being discontinued. That house is above politics and is a national treasure that every citizen should be able to (and should want to) visit. After all, it is owned by the American people. Whether it is a political ploy, true budget cut, or something in between, we all lose.

Complete side note on a random thread: This is my second green screen post. The first one was only a single word, so please pardon the introduction on this thread. I've been a long-time lurker and have enjoyed reading this site for too long not to join. After a couple of sticker sitings here in Austin, I decided I would join in. Hope to talk with y'all soon.

Funny how some do and some don't. Thanks for keeping us sportsmen, and last hardworking true Americans, informed
For the record, that building and every other government building for that matter, belongs to the American citizens.
