Texas A&M Aggies “win” two additional football national titles this summer?

texas claims a national title in a year when they lost their bowl game and finished ranked no higher than 3rd in the country because some obscure poll called them national champs before anyone played a bowl game. USC claims the 1939 national championship too. A&m was named national champions by 10 of 13 polls that year and USC was named NC by one poll. There's nothing wrong with the NC claims as there are a lot of years when multiple schools claimed NCs back in the day. The only thing is that A&M probably should have claimed them all along.

the conference championship thing is different. If they want to change the wording to 'conference and division champions' then that would be fine. At least they're not claiming any Texas state championships.

On the UT NC. Apples and oranges. Texas was declared the NC at the time...aggie is claiming these 60-70 years later.

Edit: Then again, I also think you should have to win your conference to play in the national championship game. But that's another story.

BCS had to make sure they got it right. In a momentary lapse after the end of LSU/BAMA v.1 I said on the game thread BAMA had lost their chance to play for #1. Shortly thereafter I realized we had the chance to get in and changed my tune. ChadC and SMART may remember this but nary a Bengal was on the thread until 00:00 + 5 seconds

Texas has a lot of young talent but it probably won't be enough to win the Big 12 this year. They are only starting 4 seniors and 60%+ of their starters are Freshman and Sophomores. The futures so bright we have to wear shades, though.

I will say this one team in the SEC West once gave their players rings for finishing first in the West, don't know if they put it on the stadium

I would be ragging on ANY team started claiming phantom NC's. It is quite poetic, and not shocking, though that it is aggie.
