Huntindad- I will tell you the story and all of its details after this has been sorted out. I dont want the game warden or anyone involved or the ranch owner to be on the internet before this is ironed out.

Texastaxi- I dont hunt opening day. I may only hunt once for 3-4 days in a season. I have not nor will I have time to hunt my lease this year. I am self employeed, so the nature of my business has not given my time this fall nor do I see it after this ordeal that I will have time too, so why do I spend $300 if Im not going to get to hunt, unless you want to spend that much cash on me. Who says I have to buy the license at the beginning and not wait till I go down there which is usually around thanksgiving, or in your opinion the middle of hunting season. We bought my nephews license last monday when we got to the town we hunt and the guy who sold it didnt look at us and say why didnt you buy this on opening day. So assume away, but you know what assumes do.....
Jaspro is right, there is no line in the tpw hand book that states I HAVE to have a license to be on any property.

I'm sorry you accidentally broke the law by not understanding the requirements. I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but enforcement of the law isn't conditional upon you understanding it. The nine year old isn't allowed to hunt unassisted, so anyone hunting with him is required to have a license and, if you were born after September 2nd 1971, the HE certification too. That's pretty clear cut. You may think it ridiculous, but you still broke the law.

He probably won't admit to rumaging through your personal belongings. Since you weren't there at the time, I doubt you can prove he did it. Honestly, I'm a little skeptical of whether he really did that. That part of the story seems a bit self-serving and I'm finding it a little hard to believe. But, if the search really went as you say, I would absolutely fight it to the hilt.

Best of luck to you in sorting all this out.

Don't doubt that SL. One year we were fishing below the **** at Lake Proctor. I had a shotgun and ak-47 under the back seat of my truck. We had been at my grandparents shooting and just stopped by on our way back to Stephenville to wet a hook as the sand bass were biting good. Anyway when the warden came down to check our license he wanted to know who owned the truck and why I had guns on corp property. My truck had been locked. I had no idea at the time guns were illegal on corp property even though it was clearly posted on the entrance to the fishing area. Luckily he let me off with a warning. Sure wish I could remember that wardens name as he was one of the nicest ones I haev ever meet and he was an "older" gentelman as well.

I guess I am lost at this point. You have a lease in Texas that you previously stated you hunt 3-4 times a season. Yet you are asking for advice on why you were ticketed for not having a hunter ed card. I understand you may not have been "officially" hunting in this instance but it sounds like you have been guilty of the same offense in the past by hunting with out the proper certifications. I am not taking sides, just stating the obvious. Good luck..
