We are in the process of starting a select baseball team with an established organization. This will be the 4th or 5th team that this organization will have. We met last night to talk about fundraisers, tryouts, etc. and the idea of becoming a 501C3 Non-Profit organization came up.
This organization does not profit off of parents and kids but instead raises money by cooking briskets, golf tournaments, etc. to offset costs and all costs that remain are equally distributed between each kid on the team. No paid coaches and the owner of the organization does not do it for profit.
He mentioned last night that several businesses are willing to donate money but prefer to donate to 501 organizations for tax purposes.
So my question is......can a baseball team be a non-profit organization?
