How many on the ol' green screen are on city councils? I'm considering a run for our town of 8K. Is it good work? Worth the headaches? Does it make a difference?

I have been to hundreds of council meetings throughout the country for my past job.....the sheer boredom of those meetings would be too much for me to ever consider serving on council. Yes they need good people to serve but my opinion is that most (not all) council members just want to serve to stroke their own egos.

I am a council member of a small WT town. Not many issues here but they do occasionally pop up that make me wonder why I am doing this, again. I served as a council member for 14 years the first time, just re-upped for my 3rd 4 year term. I also was on the County Water district for 4 years and a County Commissioner for 4 years. Commissioner was the only one that paid a salary. If you feel like I do and think you can help your community, then sign up, if not stay out and let someone that may help serve.

I served two terms as a council member in the City of Krum. I enjoyed it. I believe I made a difference in the town. I was able to update a park with a new restroom while I was on board and also get a dedicated Parks employee. Even expanded our Police force and built a new fire house
I was also on the Crime and Prevention Committee and the Parks Committee.

I was Mayor of a town in Central Texas some years back - population was 25K at the time and is now 100k - I had a good council and I think we made some strides to improve the town that are still helping the city today. I was self employed but made time to serve and I will never regret it

You couldn’t pay me to work on a council/commissioners court. Ive spent nearly 20 years working under one of those entities and to see the stuff that goes on and how it affects the community has been enough for me. I know my experience isn’t the same across the state but to know it’s a possibility to be on a council with someone who will do whatever it takes to benefit themselves and no one else isn’t worth the headache. To each their own though. . .

You can sit on the sidelines and gripe/complain or get in the game and make a difference. You know going in that isnt all gonna be sunshine and roses but at the end of the day, you make decisions that are best for the overall community. I think Mayor McFry has a nice ring to it................
