    First Fire

It has been a rather warm fall, but it may be officially over. We had our first heavy frost this morning and that prompted me to light the first fire of the “winter” also. After eating a bowl of oatmeal and raisins and drinking a 20 oz. cup of coffee, my head is sweating. Click image for larger version

That is a great pic!!! We sweat and fight humidity all year for these temps!! My crew is mad because I refuse to turn on the house heater

Thanks ! FTR, that whitetail ain’t as big as he looks in that fireplace pic, but the goat on the right is every bit as little as he looks. I thought WTH, he was my first antelope with a bow, it took 3.5 grueling days in a popup, and I 12 ringed him at 47 yards. He deserved some kind of recognition. He died chasing tail, so he died happy ! Click image for larger version

            Not far behind you
Dug the wood rack for the porch out yesterday and filled it up
Went and climbed in a tree this morning so no fire, maybe this evening. Make some points with her, she likes a fire and can go through some firewood

Nicely done! I see Molly is on point keeping an eye on things.

Lit my pilot lite on my dearborn this week. Finally turned it on yesterday. Frost on my windshield yesterday when I left for PT. House has been in the 60s for the past couple weeks. But I also don't want the water lines get-n to cold.

I like that insert. Any details on it?

All I gotta do is push a button!! Love the convenience but miss the wood smell.

Appalachian Stove and Fabricator Inc. It’s actually not an insert, they sat it down on some concrete blocks and bricked around it. Last time I looked they were still in business although the place I bought it 28 years ago is long gone. It’s a catalytic stove, can’t burn green wood in it, but the beauty part is you never get soot in the chimney pipe. We have had a chimney sweep out twice in that time and he went through the motions but it was clean. The best investment I made during the building except for a urinal in the front bathroom. I did have to put a fan motor in it 5 or 6 years ago. You have to pull the cover off to oil the fan blade bearing. Pizz poor design there but otherwise a great heater.

What a great pic! Don that is a very nice cozy family room sir! Lots of memories hanging on the wall, stories behind each one... What fun to sit at the fire and tell 'em all again to anyone who will listen! Don't get much better than that!

Thanks Charlie, we have enjoyed this house and especially this room immensely. A little backstory, when we decided to build I went to a place where I could look at lots of plans and I finally came up with four that I thought we could afford and would like. I brought them home and told my wife to pick the plan she liked best. It happened to be the one I liked best too. That was a timesaver ! No wrangling, no haggling, just get on with it. If I had to do it over, I would have made it ten feet longer and ten feet wider, but that’s water under the bridge !
