    tactacam reveal camera user question

i got about 10 of them im running with no issues so far. however, i fired a new one up 2 days ago with brand new batteries. it sent some pics the first night, but nothing after that. i noticed this morning it hadnt updated in 2 days so i went to check it. a scrape was blown out in front of it so it should have sent a lot of pics. i reinserted the batteries and they read 40% so i replaced with new ones even though i have numerous cams running on 40-50% that work like a champ. now its showing 100% and sent pics of me to my phone. has anyone ever heard of alkaline batteries shorting a whole set out? i know all about lithiums and i know how 1 bad one can shut down the whole batch. i got away from the 2 years ago. never had an issue until now with alkaline batteries other than them getting low on juice.

Get you a solar panel. Much easier not having to worry about a bunch of batteries.

I have one Tactacam that eats up batteries quicker than the others, it seemed to start that after the batteries went dead and I couldn’t get down there to change them for a week or so. I’m using the cheap alkaline batteries right now, may go back to energizer after these are gone and see what happens.

following along to see what kind of help you get on this.

no matter what, Tactacam still beats spypoint!

Solar panel is not an option in thick woods.

Tactacam solar panel is worth it. It has a built in battery that you charge at home and it’ll last awhile even in no light. With no batteries in the cam.

12v lead acid external battery, will take about 3-4000 pictures on a charge.

But I have had this happen before, once they start dropping power its a rather quick process before they stop functioning. At least this is my experience.

I don’t know why anyone still pays for batteries in those cameras. You’re just throwing money away. Spend $40-$60 and get a solar panel with internal battery. I run 8 cameras and none of my cameras have batteries in them

I know what you’re saying, but I switched to the rechargeable battery in my Gen 2’s after having run solar panels for almost two years.

Reason being is pictured below. The panel ended up with moisture in it during a storm, shorted out, and blew the camera my father had set up to pieces.

The panel was obviously the issue. It blew the plug end off of the cable and scorched the bottom end of the battery tray. The panel was otherwise good, but no way was I going to chance plugging it back in after that.

This solution won’t work for everyone, but I’m up at the place every 2-4 weeks so I can change out the battery before it dies.

It is a great option if you buy the herd360 1025 solar panel. It’s a carbon fiber panel with 25,000 mah lithium batteries pack. It’s legit!!! The majority of solar panels are in the 2000-5000 range.

My Tactacam is on a solar power pack and has been draining it completely dead in 24 hours. I swapped out with a new power pack and still drains it. I contacted Tactacam and they told me to update the firmware and that should solve the problem. I will do that tomorrow and see if that fixes it.

I did a firmware update and am not having the battery drain issue so far. The update is fairly simple to do but you will need a laptop to download the files on a SD card.

We run 5 but had one do the same thing when it was new. Had to have it replaced.
