On the Obit, second place to donate to is a mental health facility. Based on my experience with other friends/family, I would speculate he took his life after a long struggle with mental illness. But that is fully speculation. Prayers up for the Blanton Family. As others have said, David is a great guy. I was able to meet him on a couple occasions, and spend some time with him on one of those. Very sad to hear.

David is a super nice guy. Had the opportunity to meet him and have dinner for a couple hours. We talked a lot about God, family and deer. Hate to hear this. Prayers for the family.
