Dewalt Drill Question?

I have 2 Dewalt Hammer drills and as luck would have it they both stripped gears out yesterday. The transmissions work but when I put them under a load it sounds like a plastic gear is stripped. Ive looked and looked but I cant seem to figure out what part is striped by looking online and I really dont want to pull it apart without having parts to put it back together, curious if anyone has had this happen and knows what part I need to repair them.

Could it be that you have the torque setting too low? Other than that, it's all I've got.

One of mine did this, I didn't take it apart, I took it to a local tool shop and they sent it back to dewalt for me and it looked like a brand new drill when I got it back and it only cost me 50 bucks!

Mine did this a few weeks back. I asked my buddy that sells them and he said to make sure the selector switch was engaged properly. Mine wasnt engaged just right and caused it to slip. Just an idea.

There is a dewalt/black and decker service center here in Austin off Burnet Rd so I am sure there are others out there....they also sell refurbed stuff as well...looks like they moved off braker now

anyone ever have the silver/back part of the chuck come off? I can pry it back up on the chuck but man it is a pain...just need to take it over to the bd/dewalt place I guess

Not that yours isn't stripped but I had one once that was doing the same thing. It turned out that it was stuck between speed settings.

Dewalt uses plastic gears, that is why I switched to Bosch and Milwauke brand Hammer Drills.

Same problem on mine and I took it to texas tools and it cost me $80 you may get a better price taking it to one of the Dewalt places listed above.

It may be the selector switch is slipping out of hammer mode and not all the way to regular drill mode.

If you replace it I would go Makita. I have Makita electric tools that are over 30 years old and are still working great and they get used a lot. I've completely given up on Dewalt tools. I've gone through several 18V drill drivers and went to Makita on them as well. I put in thousands of TEK screws a year and the Dewalts were lasting about a year. The two Makitas I have now are 3 years old and doing great. They are all I'll buy from now on.

theres a great place in plano texas called american tool, they will fix it brand new,its under a hundred bucks,never seen plastic gears in mine,ive taken them apart many times to change out triggers and gears.
