This is video from the 2nd week of bow season when I took my nephew hunting for a doe. He is shooting a crossbow, as he has not mastered a compound bow well enough yet to shoot a deer. As you can see we are covered up in does (not sure where the heck they all are now) and he can't get one to give him a shot opportunity. These deer were out in front of us for over 30 minutes and I could tell he was really wanting to shoot, so when the 4 point gave him the opportunity I let him shoot. This was his first buck as well. Well after he shoots a doe wanted to come back in and I was going to shoot her, but she decided not to stay. Not 10 minutes later, just as I had hung my bow back up, in walks the 9 I was hunting for. I turned on the camera, grabbed my bow, knocked an arrow, and let him have it. Watch the top right of the video where he runs off. This is my best buck to date and I was extremely happy with him. I have watched this deer for the last 3 seasons and was very excited to see him on trailcams before the season started. I hunt on a very small piece of property and only shoot mature deer, does included in hopes of geetting a chance at some true hill country monster one day. Patience is paying off for me. Just wish my neighbors would do the same thing.
