I just finished guiding a hunt in Unit 36 and my buddy missed a nice bull at 42 yards. I'm leaving for my hunt in northern NM in 5 hours. This day is going by horribly slow.

I got word from my buddy and he has been seeing a lot of elk so that makes me even more excited.

Split Arrow...any updates?

heard from him yesterday on his way home....I'll let him fill in the story but like the rest of us the past week in NM, lots of rain is the major story.

Had called a 310-315" six point bull in to five yards yesterday, while drawing my arrow came off the string and while trying to let down quickly I bumped the trigger. Dry fired my bow and broke the string.....of all the things that could go wrong they did!
First dry fire in 20 years of shooting a bow.....will replace strings today and sight back in for next weekend.
Bull came in silently, not a sound. Was awesome to have the bull that close.

Wow and tough luck! I dry fired once when an arrow came unknocked and ruined my CAMs.

Lots of bugling here in NM. Full moon has them out all night, then things are hitting a lull midday. Have had elk in bow range constantly, just not the right one yet. Had one pretty 6x6 at 60 yds but no way to get an arrow through the brush. Plenty of water around so not looking good to sit on wallows, etc.

Just got back from 16B. It was awesome!!! Rained messed it up but had a few responded. Monsters bulls everywhere. Im hooked now.
