Bottom line is sellers trying to make money-buyers trying to save money it's always going to be like that......bet u didn't buy ur car at sticker price right, negotiating is the word!

The first thing that came to mind was a recent discussion about a job possibility. The hiring manager asked what I had to have salary wise. I replied, "tell me what you have to offer and I'll let you know if further talks are worth either of our time."
I usually end up paying asking price for stuff, if I thunk it's a good deal. I hate low ballers and because of that don't want a seller thinking I'm doing that. If I think it's priced right, I buy it, if I don't, I move on.

        .
Been there too. If I say firm, I'm not going to spend extra money to save the buyer money.

Different people have different negotiating styles and methods. Some have none at all and don't care to go that route.

If someone says OBO, chances are that there is some room to negotiate. If they say "firm" chances are that there is not.

Bottom line is some folks like to negotiate and consider it part of the "deal" and some folks think they should get the first price they ask and are offended if "low balled".

If you think its a "low ball", don't respond to the post or PM. That's what I do.

I don't care for haggling very much and I generally won't do it.. When I buy something I have a price in mind and if your asking price is more than that, I just go right on by to the next item..

I do pretty much the same with a truck purchase except I tell the dealer what I'm willing to pay and they can make a decision as to whether they want to accept my offer or not. But I don't make stupid offers, my offer is based on my need and the wholesale price of the truck..

When I offer something for sale, the price is based on how much it has been used, it's condition and replacement value. I never get upset with reasonable offers, I may not accept them but I don't mind them.. The ridiculous lowball offers of a ¼ or a 1/10 of the value are the ones that get me going.. I don't have to sell this stuff to pay my rent or to eat so if it sets another day or another year it isn't going to hurt me a bit.. I ain't desperate and I ain't stupid.. so giving me a lowballer offer like I'm some druggie selling stuff to get my next fix is just a waste of both of our time..

Sometimes I wonder if there are some people out there that cannot read and only know how to type the words "Any pics?"
Pics are a must for me. I will ask for pics above and beyond what are posted. How do I even know if you have what you are trying to sell. The member's "status" on TBH has alot to do with it. I know many on here and some, I would buy from with no pictures.....others that I don't know, I want pics and lots of them, especially on big ticket items. My last two purchases in the classifieds(totaling $1500) were not as stated. Better pics would have cleared up that issue. I asked and got more pics but the buyer managed to miss the "flaws" with the description and additional pics.

I will post "pics?" simply because everyone wants to see what they are buying. Posting a pic from the mfr's website of a "it looks just like this" used item doesn't fly with me either. If your item is used, it doesn't look just like that. I have purchased some $20,000 in items from the classifieds in the last 4 yrs. I want to see what I am buying.

Ok, this is what happened recently. I advertised on the other site two arrow rests (I tried here, but not one person was interested). One was a left handed Bodoodle, one was a right handed Fuse, each for $30. I did not say OBO although I did say Make an offer if you want. (same difference I know).
The first guy offers "$45 for both the lefties"
Me- "how about $50 for both, but wait, one is RH, you know that right?"
Him-"your right. I am only interested in the lefty, was going to get both and see if I couldn't sell the other one" (This tells me the price is right on for him to make some money, which I don't have a problem with)

Then he pops the dreaded question, "What's your best price on the lefty?" Keeping in line with the previous haggling, I say $25. He sends back a message and says "Oh, well nevermind- I really rather have the Fuse." What? I thought he wanted the left handed rest.
                  Darn tire kicker, see?

Oh, and I sold the Fuse yesterday to a guy in Argentina

I'm amazed that people try to sell things without posting pictures, not too many people will buy higher priced items sight unseen. Besides its so easy to snap a pic and upload it now, not like the old days.

It all depends on how bad I want to sell it. I always have a bottom dollar in mind, but im not going there that easy! Where gonna haggle a little bit.

Sold a truck to a local guy a few years ago. First thing he asks was my bottom dollar. I was asking 12,000 for the truck, and I had decided i could live with getting 10k for it if it took too long to sell. But this was the first buyer. So I told him I would take 11k for it. He said good, cause that is all the money I have. He pulled out a bank envelope with hundred dollar bills in it.

Another one was a truck I wanted 10k for. Guy drove from Austin with his wife to check it out. My bottom dollar was 8k. He looked it over, drove it, came back, and offered me 9k. I took his deal.

Another deal I had a lady email me about a '96 f350 PSD w/300k miles on it. She asked if I would trade her for what sounded like a beat up f250 w/a 460 in it. I emailed her back asking if she was smoking crack, and she got mad....LOL.

The only stuff I've been able to sell on here is the stuff I gave away for free. It's tough times out there for sure.

sometimes you can get someone to tell you that number they already have in their head.

and you may be different, but some folks get offended when I tell them how much I'm willing to pay for their stuff.

                          it saves them from that.
exactly negotiation is the american way.

don't put obo if you don't want to negotiate!!!

I don't haggle well and probably never will. I have worked overseas quite a bit in the past few years and that is just a way of life in most foreign countries. I think it is probably something we could learn from our neighbors. They don't get offended or insulted (they may act like it though) and just keep on sellin. One of my very good friends, a lady, could haggle with the best of them. It was plum embarassing to go car shopping with her but she got what she wanted for her price every time. When she got through neither party was offended either. I think most of us down south don't know this fine art. Just expressing, like my grandaughter says.

Seems like no matter what price you put on something a lot of people want it for less. I often wonder if you put something on here for free if any one is going to ask you to pay them to take it.

I agree...annoys the fire out of me. If I have something listed for (let’s say) $100, and someone asks me my lowest price, I immediately quote them 10% higher than the stated price and call it a moron tax. If you’re gonna haggle, do it the right way and make a reasonable offer, then I'll counter.

I'm sure it may work on some sellers, but I don't think it follows etiquette.
