    Shooting deer through shoulders

I'm currently in NW Arkansas hunting at my brother inlaws place. His land is on aproximently 200yd wide ridge line on a mountain. On each side is about a 200 to 300 feet drop. My stand is about 15 yds from one of the sides. My question is how many people shoot deer through the shoulders on purpose to put them down quick. I know with a rifle on trophy bucks we try to break both shoulders. On a certain Hunting show they swear by the high shoulder shot being a sure Lights out shot with a rifle. I shoot a Hoyt Ultratec 70 lbs. 100 grain slick trick magnum and it's a furthest shot of about 15 yds in a ground blind. If the deer goes over we are SOL short of technical rescue gear 1000 feet rope and one huge winch for a fat guy and a deer!!!!! Any thoughts????

I don't think a bow has enough kinetic energy to make a shoulder shot a sure knockdown.

Hmmmmm??? I figure the only way you will put one down in his tracks with a bow is a spine shot, but you will need to have a quick follow up to dispatch it.
I wonder if a lung shot deer would bail off the 1000 cliff anyway. I would tend to think it would run to safety......

Everyone has their own way of doing things. I have been shooting 'em through both lungs for a long time and never had a problem. If it rolls down the hill, it just adds to the story!

My buddy hit one in the shoulder with a pass thru and that deer went 400 yards.

I put it through the shoulders on deer when shooting my Monster. But its set at 85# and shoots a 760gr arrow at 280fps. They could make a few hops then it was down.

A neck shot will drop them if you can place it there with no problem.

With a rifle, but not an arrow. Too much room for error.

Shoot em in the heart/lungs and take your chances. More than likely it will choose the main trail as the escape route and not pull a Wile E Coyote on ya.
