I'm currently in NW Arkansas hunting at my brother inlaws place. His land is on aproximently 200yd wide ridge line on a mountain. On each side is about a 200 to 300 feet drop. My stand is about 15 yds from one of the sides. My question is how many people shoot deer through the shoulders on purpose to put them down quick. I know with a rifle on trophy bucks we try to break both shoulders. On a certain Hunting show they swear by the high shoulder shot being a sure Lights out shot with a rifle. I shoot a Hoyt Ultratec 70 lbs. 100 grain slick trick magnum and it's a furthest shot of about 15 yds in a ground blind. If the deer goes over we are SOL short of technical rescue gear 1000 feet rope and one huge winch for a fat guy and a deer!!!!! Any thoughts????

Shoot em in the heart/lungs and take your chances. More than likely it will choose the main trail as the escape route and not pull a Wile E Coyote on ya.
