goats, dogs , 4H projects questions

Ok my son has show goats and already this year and in every previous year we have had "wild" dog problems. from them killing goats to just tearing them up. I'm thinking of getting a guard dog to see if that may help. I already have donkeys running with them but we had an attack the other night and ended up with a shredded ear.

My question is if i get a guard dog how much trouble am I going to have with my run dog. I'm worried about the guard dog tearing up my run dog. I will try and keep them apart but the way things work I'm sure they will get together at some time or another.

    Any suggestions

Believe me when I say the SSS is in full effect but I cant get them all I have been trying for years.

A great pyrenese (sp?) will protect what is already there and not fight with your run dog. You can get them up to a year old and they will learn your property. From what I understand about them, they start becoming protective at about 1 1/2- 2 years old.

Many dogs will understand the difference between wild and pets. My dog used to kill feral cats, but always left the barn cats alone.

You need to get a puppy. Rasie the pup with the herd. He'll learn what belongs and what doesn't. A pyrenese will do the job.

The pup I'm planning on getting is 5 months old cross Pyrenees and Anatolian that has been with goats since birth.
