Boot Material.... What would u choose ?

I am ordering a pair of custom made boots in the near future and am trying to make my mind up on what to get. Right now the front runners are elephant and ostrich, but I'm open to suggestions.

I pretty much want something that is durable and won't scuff too easy, but still be able to polish them up and wear to special events. Any of you with experience in this feel free to provide your recommendations.

Smooth ostrich is my personal favorite. All the comfort without all those little bumps.

Of the legal leathers it HAS to be Stingray

Under the table leather has to be either Sea Turtle or Anteater

Caiman (http://www.lucchese.com/products_detail.php?id=1951). Ostrich a distant second.

I've got the Elephant and Ostrich (smooth & full quill) all production boots.

Of the two choices you listed, I prefer Elephant, but concur with Nate & Ag 96 that you consider Caiman as well. Personally, my next pair with be Caiman.

Stingray looks cool, but I would thing it might be hard to clean with that porous look. My buddy that works at the boot shop is making him some caiman, looks close to gator to me without the big price tag, but how well would they hold up?

Any of you ostrich owners (belly or leg) have a bug & wrinkle on your boots?

Mine are all full quill ostrich by Luchesse. Very comfortable and very tough.

I have a pair of hornback crocs made by Meyer Boots here in houston...

If you are going to wear them everyday, or a lot.... elephant will outlast
all of us, bet ele doesn't polish up and shine, it's a rough texture, Ostrich
is not as durable as many other hides.....

If you want different... you can get boots made from Bullfrog hide... yes, I
                            said bullfrog....

snakeskin is so 80's.... even Texastaxi has a pair of those somewhere..

Just decide on how much and for what purpose you are going to wear them,
look at some of the different materials used on the heels and soles... some
are great for all day on the feet stuff... some are great for sitting , pick
out want kind of toe you want, and what style of top you want...

you didn't say if these are true, made to fit you, custom boots, or a factory made
"custom" boot .... either way, there are tons of choices to consider

                              Pretty opposite extremes on toughness/durability.

IMHO once the elephants get your feet broken in you will love them. Hard to damage and easy to clean. You can scratch ostrich just by looking at them hard.
