I understand perfectly what you are saying. Most don't go into it with a career in mind, but most in the civil world don't go into thier first jobs knowing what they want out of life either.
Meaning, this kid, right now, wants to be a Marine. Right now, he is a soldier. If he decides a different career path in life, then he will.
My point to his mother was that right now, at this moment, he wants to be a soldier. That carries with it more than a simple job title in my book. A soldier is one that is brave and will stand up and defend another. A soldier is one that will stand in harms way so as others may not be harmed. I just wish I could get into text what I really am trying to say.
Simply, to decide you want to be a soldier means, to me, that you are a special kind of person.
