Webb County Group Hog Hunt

Friday Evening

Ben, Steven, Glenn and Rick were the only ones able to get to the ranch in time to hunt.  They had all taken time to set up stands in preparation for the weekends festivities.  Jerry Gonzales' buddies, Pepito, Ben and Rolando, had also made it to the ranch.

Glenn opted to hunt my tripod on the edge of a road on the south side of the property.  As darkness enveloped him, hogs began making their way towards his position.  In the last bit of daylight, he made a shot on a hog that had made it to within 15 yards of his stand.  He reported that pigs went everywhere upon hearing the shot.  He gave the hog some time, and then made his way over to the spot of the shot to take up the trail.  His efforts in trailing were cut short due to weak flashlight batteries.  He opted to wait until everyone was in to take up the trail.

When David Simmons and I arrived, we quickly made our way out to Glenn's spot with the rest of the hunters in order to find his hog.  Even with nine hunters taking up the trail, the hog eluded us.  We made our way back to camp.

Pepito had also shot a hog, but his trail ended much the same way Glenn's did.  He had attempted a double shot with his partner, but their timing was off slightly.  Pepito had proclaimed himself as "The Tracker", but his skills were no match for the wounded pigs.

Rick Hale saw many hogs, but was unable to get a shot.

Ben reports on Steven's and his trip down and their evening hunt:

Steven and I met in Waco on Thursday evening and made the drive down to Casey's ranch in Cotulla to see if we could stick a hog at a feeder that has been well known for hogs in the past. The feeder did not sling Friday morning and the hogs didn't come in. We messed around on the ranch for a few hours and then made the drive down to the ranch where we would spend the rest of the weekend.

As soon as we got to the ranch, Rick and Glenn offered to take us out to where they had decided would be a great spot for us to get hog shots on video. After setting up Michael's Brush Country ICE Blind and clearing a few lanes, we were set. We returned to camp to get in a few practice shots and shower for the evening hunt. We headed out without putting corn on the road thinking that they would corn the roads like they have been doing lately. There was a slight misunderstanding and we didn't have any hogs stop by to eat. No big deal, we'll know in the morning!

Jerry Black and David Inbody made it in from College Station completing our entourage.  The hogs were in for some serious harassment!
